Here is Cynthia`s introduction to her series of letters from her time traveller...
.
It was about two weeks ago when I went to the grocery store to buy some milk and bread. The strangest thing happened to me. I was walking through the canned goods section to go to the fridges to get my milk when I accidentally bumped into this weird old man with glasses and white hair. He had dropped some of his things so I helped him pick them up. He said thank you and started to talk to me.
He seemed pretty wacky but he was very polite. I felt strange just standing in the middle of the alley talking to this weird man about a project that he was planning. His project was to build a time machine. He said that he was determined to make it happen so that he could go back in time. I thought about it for a while and thought that it would be fun. I was just wondering on how the time machine would look so I asked him. He told me that it would be in the shape of a giant egg. It would have enough space for about three people; it would have a great big window in the front with all the control panels underneath it. It would also have a bathroom like in the city buses and a little cupboard for which to store food in case of anything going wrong. He told me that it would be pretty plain, nothing too fancy. He said that as long as it took him back in time safely and at the right destination that he would be pleased. He said that he believed that safety came first and that was what he planned on doing. He really didn't want to die on the first trip.
As I was getting into the conversation I looked at the time and realized that I was late for supper. I told him that I thought that his idea was great just that I was late for supper and had to go. He said that he was happy that I thought so and asked me for my address. I was confused and asked him why. He told me that if I was really interested in this project that he could write and send some pictures on how he was doing and how the project was coming along. I thought that was a great idea, so I gave him my address and told him that I really had to go if I didn't want to get into any trouble. He told me that we happy that he had met me and apologized for keeping me waiting. I said that it was no problem and then I left. |
